Anna Hazare set to visit Arunachal on December 16
Social Activist Anna Hazare will be visiting Arunachal Pradesh’s capital, Itanagar, on 16th December. He will be addressing the public awareness program on Lokayukta among other issues at IG Park in Itanagar.
Committee Organising Secretary Payi Gyadi informed the media persons at Arunachal Press Club about the impending visit of the activist.
“We request Chief Minister Pema Khandu to declare him as a State guest and provide a helicopter as a mark of respect,” Secretary of the organising committee of Anna Samarthak Arunachal Pradesh (ASAP) Payi Gyadi told reporters at the Arunachal Press Club here.
Gyadi also demanded from the State government restoration of Section 44 of the original Lokayukta Act and immediate constitution of Lokpal in the State. “The State Assembly passed the Lokayukta Act on March 5, 2014, and received the assent from the Governor too. The State government has committed constitutional impropriety by not constituting Lokayukta till date,” Gyadi said.
The National Commission on Farmers, under the leadership of S Swaminathan submitted a report on the causes of farmer distresses and the rise in farmer suicides.
ASAP Chairman Serpi Flago said in order to check corruption in the country, election symbol should be replaced by the photo of the candidate. The ‘none of the above’ option during polling should be replaced by ‘right to reject’ or ‘right to recall’, he added.
The Lokayukta Act was passed by the former Congress government and accepted by the State but is yet to be implemented. “Why is the present BJP government not ready to act on it?” Serpi asked the State government.
