Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu came in the front with the issue of rail connectivity and urged Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to prioritize it to the State in this year’s Union Budget on Friday.

CM Khandu also expressed gratitude to the Centre for giving special impetus to rail and road connectivity to the frontier State, an official statement said.

He further said that the Naharlagun railway station currently possesses all the required amenities to start operations of new train services, including Rajdhani Express.

It may be mentioned that nowadays, everyone has one eye towards this year budget.

Pema Khandu is the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. Since becoming chief minister in July 2016, he and his government have twice changed their party affiliation; in September from the Indian National Congress to the Peoples Party of Arunachal and then in December 2016 to the Bharatiya Janata Party. Previously he had served as Minister of Tourism, Urban Development and Water Resources in Nabam Tuki’s government.

He is the eldest son of former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, who died in helicopter tragedy on 30 April 2011 on a constituency visit to Tawang. His political life catapulted post the tragic death of his father making him youngest minister in the cabinet.
