NATIONAL PARTIES YET TO DISCUSS THE DATES TO DECLARE CANDIDATES

The national parties are yet to have the meetings to discuss the date to declare their candidates. On the other hand, the ECI is expected to announce the poll date either in the first week or in the second week of January. It must be noted that the election committee of the Congress has had no meeting to discuss the release of candidates’ list.

One of the functionaries while speaking to the media persons said, “Since many party leaders and legislators are out of station, the election committee has not met”.

BJP, after winning Gujarat and Himachal, is eyeing to win Meghalaya as well. Still, the saffron party has also not declared the names of contesting candidates and there has been not a single meeting to discuss the candidates. It is most likely to be held in January first week due to the festivities.

It is expected that the Congress party would field candidates in all the 60 seats while the BJP would eye to contest in the winnable seats. The other political parties of Meghalaya, including NPP, UDP-HSPDP combine, PDF and KHNAM have already declared the names of many candidates.

Earlier, A team of Election Commission recently visited Meghalaya to take a stock of the poll-preparedness. The Cheif Election Commissioner also visited the state taking the lead of the team. After a series of meetings, EC showed satisfaction over the preparedness of Meghalaya poll.
