Gauhati University to Host Inter-Varsity Youth Festival after 25 Years
- It was held in 1986 and 1992 at Gauhati University in AIU
- Assam governor will be the chief patron
Guwahati: GauhatiUniversity is in talks again. The university is going to host 33rd East Zone Inter-University Youth Festival 2017-18 under the aegis of Association of Indian Universities(AIU), New Delhi from January 5-9, 2018, report said.
After a gap of twenty-five years, it was held in 1986 and 1992 at Gauhati University in AIU. An organizing committee and 19 sub-committees have been formed for successful completion of the Festival. Ranjan Kumar Kakati, director of students’ welfare, said an organizing committee, along with 19 subcommittees has been constituted in the fest, it added.
Assam governor will be the chief patron while chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, cultural affairs and sports minister Naba Kumar Doley, and GU vice-chancellor Mridul Hazarika will be grace the fest.
Kakati further said that About 25-30 universities from eastern India are expected to participate in the festival in 26 different music, cultural, literary and fine arts’ competition Jagdish Mukhins with approximately 800 participants.
Gauhati University is located in Jalukbari, Guwahati is the oldest and most renowned University in the entire North East India. It was established in 1948. It is a teaching-cum-affiliating university. There are several colleges, institutes etc. that are affiliated to this university. At present, there are approximately 326 Colleges/Institutes (list of colleges) which comes under this university, which is mostly located in the districts of Lower Assam.
