Imphal: A village in Manipur has initiated a cleanliness drive where the Village authorities are buying dry waste like paper, plastic clothes etc from the residents of the area where the waste is accumulated and later disposes it outside the village, sources said.
According to reports, the Karbi Village in the State of Manipur has taken up this initiative of purchasing the waste from the local villagers and disposing of the same outside the village to create awareness regarding cleanliness. Reportedly, the village authorities have spent around 1.8 lakhs in the drive.
The purpose of this initiative is to create awareness about cleanliness and to start a dustbin free campaign in the village. December 16 is celebrated as Dustbin Free Festival in Manipur and above drive has been initiated to celebrate the day and to develop a habit of separating wastes as dry and wet.
Pukeho Athishu of Village committee said that their objective is to make Karbi the cleanliest village in India and for that they will continue making efforts.
Central government’s Swachh Bharat team has motivated the village administration to adopt such initiative. As reported, currently there is no concrete plan to dispose of the wastes hence these wastes are disposed of an isolated land but the Swachh Bharat team is seeking support from the district authorities in order to successfully achieve its objective.
