Meghalaya Poll: Congress to Decide on Candidates after Holidays

To decide on the names of candidates for the upcoming Meghalaya elections, the Election Committee of the Congress party in Meghalaya would be having a meet.

Ronnie Lyngdoh, the Congress spokesperson and one of the members of the Election Committee said that the Election commission has already been notified that the committee would have a meeting after the holidays to take a call on the names of the candidates. It must be mentioned that the Congress has already announced that the party would be going to contest the elections in all 60 Assembly seats in Meghalaya.

The party has already circulated the applications for the candidates who would be willing to contest the elections on a Congress ticket. As per the sources, Congress has already received multiple applications for a poll ticket in several constituencies of the state. The process for distributing the forms was started on August 31 and more than 100 forms were distributed.

It has been learned that Jopthiaw Lyngdoh, the retired government official,  has also applied for the poll ticket from Nartiang constituency.  This constituency has been currently represented by Congress legislator Sniawbhalang Dhar.

According to the sources, George Lyngdoh, the son of former chief minister late EK Mawlong, has also collected form to apply for a ticket to contest for Umroi constituency. In addition to this, five independent MLAs are also going to contest the upcoming polls on a Congress ticket.
