- The Chief Minister of Nagaland drops four ministers from the state cabinet
- This move is to facilitate the reconciliation talks between the NPF factions
- After reuniting, Zeliang will continue as CM and Shurhozelie will be the Chairman, says sources
The Chief Minister of Nagaland has recently ordered to remove four ministers from the state cabinet. The step is taken to smooth the reconciliation talks between the NPF factions going on these days.
If the factions reunite, TR Zeliang will continue as CM
The Naga People’s Front(NPF) factions are planning to reunite once again ahead of Assembly elections and the Naga talks that are in its last stage.
For smoothing the process, the Chief Minister TR Zeliang recently ordered to remove four of its cabinet ministers with the immediate effect.
The order counts Tokheho Yepthomi- Minister for School Education and Parliamentary Affairs, Y. Patton- Home Minister, Dr. Nicky Kire, Minister for Road and Bridges and Neiba Kronu, Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
After the CM’s order the Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar said, “on the recommendation of the chief minister of Nagaland, the Governor has relieved the four council of ministers with immediate effect”.
A source said, “Reconciliation process has been on for some time now. In the joint meeting recently between the two factions it was reaffirmed that T.R Zeliang will continue as chief minister and Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu will be DAN chairman while Yitachu will be the party Chief in the assembly.”
They also added, “All minister except Chief Minister, Zeliang will be dropped and new council of minister will be sworn in.”
The reconciliation process facilitated after Lok Sabha MP and NPF (Neiphiu Rio-TR Zeliang) President Neiphiu Rio resigned from the post and affirmed his support to the party under the leadership of Dr. Shurhozelie.
NPF general convention in Kohima last month reiterated support recognizing the leadership of President Liezietsu till 2020.
NPF-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) is ruling Nagaland. The NPF party was parted two ways in the month of July after some MLAs switched to the TR Zeliang camp.
