Agartala: Coach of ace gymnast Dipa Karmakar, Bisweswar Nandi has been extended for another year till next Olympics. This is informed by Bhanulal Saha, the Information and Cultural Affairs Minister.
Sources informed that there was a cabinet meeting held at Civil Secretariat on Friday. In which the cabinet took the decision to extend the tenure of Nandi’s service as he is guiding Dipa for the Olympics.
According to Minister Bhanulal Saha, we have now extended service tenure of Bisweswar Nandi for another year. As he is a coach of Dipa Karmakar who is practicing hard for the coming Olympics, we have decided to keep him in service through extension till the Olympics.
The cabinet meeting also decided to extend service tenure of a senior official of Information and Cultural Affairs Department for one year and making total 60 casual employees working in some municipal councils and Nagar panchayats, and industry department as regular etc.
Nandi, a Dronacharya awardee, is currently posted as deputy director at state government’s Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
Dipa Karmakar is an artistic gymnast, who represented India at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She is the first Indian female gymnast ever to compete in the Olympics, and the first Indian gymnast to do so in 52 years.
