Agartala: A BJP supporter body has been found dead at Chandipur under in Unakoti District on Wednesday.

According to sources, the deceased has been identified as Tunu Sukla Baidya, a driver by profession. After receiving the information, police rushed to the spot where the body was lying and took him to the hospital for post-mortem.

SP Police Control Pradip Dey stated that they couldn’t confirm whether the victim was murdered as no injury mark was found on the body. they are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death.

Although some other sources also informed that Sukla Baidya was a drunkard and he might have died due to excessive consumption of alcohol.

Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah claimed that Tripura has the highest rate of crimes against women in the country and that 25% of the literate population of the state is unemployed.

The BJP president also said that 919 cases of crimes against women were reported in 10 months in Tripura. While it was not clear from the speech which months Shah was referring to, a study of crimes against women by the Tripura Police shows that the number of crimes against women reported between January-November 2016 declined 20% to 977 cases from 1,221 cases in 2015.
