Young Legend’s League kicks off in Mizoram

The Young Legend’s League – a football league for children under 12 years of age – kicked off at Chhangphut Field, Champhai, in Mizoram.

A first of its kind league, it is called ‘baby league’ and being organized by Mizoram Football Foundation in association with 8one Foundation.

The league aims to provide a platform for children aged below 12 years to play competitive football every weekend. The teams consist of under-12, under-10 and under-8 players and will be played for around seven months.

The matches will be played under five-a-side rules with each age group comprising of 12 teams. The 12 teams will each have seven players. All the age-group categories will be played in a league format. Each team will play 33 games in a season, meaning there will be a total of 594 matches in a season.

Aimed at developing the game at grassroots level, YLL was declared open by MFA Honorary secretary Lalnghinglova Hmar who said, “The much awaited YLL has now started. One Foundation has provided all the necessary funds for the league, providing children with complete kits as well as footballs.”
